The use of aluminum jacketing in different environments

Common aluminum jacketing includes: 1060 pure aluminum jacketing, 3003 rust-proof aluminum jacketing, 5052 corrosion-resistant aluminum jacketing, etc.

Aluminum jacketing or aluminum coils used for pipe insulation generally have a long service life, up to 40 years. Users can choose the appropriate thickness according to their needs. The thinner the thickness, the easier it is to operate. Nowadays, all kinds of common pipes such as exhaust pipes and drain pipes are made of aluminum jacketing. Common aluminum jacketing have a purity of more than 99%, and the thicknesses are 0.3mm, 0.35mm, 0.45mm, 0.55mm, 0.38mm and 0.43mm. The most commonly used specifications are aluminum coils with a thickness of 0.5mm-0.8mm and a width of 1000mm.

In recent years, all walks of life have increased the use of aluminum jacketing. The biggest reason is that aluminum jacketing have a low density, high durability, and are beautiful. Therefore, almost all the pipe insulation materials of power plants and chemical plants in many cities are made of aluminum. In fact, the use of aluminum in different environments has different requirements, and strict requirements need to be met to extend the service life of the aluminum and prevent the surface of the aluminum from being damaged.

Requirements for the use of aluminum in different environments

  • 1. The space is not ventilated and the air is humid

Aluminum is a non-ferrous metal. If the aluminum is in contact with too much moisture in the air, an oxidation reaction will occur, and the surface of the aluminum will be corroded. After the corrosion layer accumulates slowly, a white oxide surface will be formed on the surface of the aluminum, resulting in an ugly appearance of the aluminum, and it will have a great negative impact on the later use.

When storing aluminum plates in a humid environment, moisture-proof wooden boards should be placed on the bottom, and never put them directly on the ground. Don’t rush to open the package of aluminum sheets that have just been taken out of a humid environment. Place them in air with normal humidity for one or two hours before opening the package for use. This can prevent the aluminum sheet from being oxidized due to the difference in humidity between the internal and external environments.

  • 2. In an extremely cold and harsh environment

Generally, when leaving the factory, aluminum jacketings are required to be packaged according to waterproof standards. For example, the outer layer must be a thick waterproof plastic cloth, and a special desiccant bag must be placed inside, so that the aluminum sheet can be used normally in cold weather such as rain or snow.

From a professional point of view, if it is not used temporarily, it is not recommended to open the outer packaging of the aluminum jacketing in the cold outdoors. In order to make the aluminum sheet have a longer service life, it is necessary to move it indoors before using it in rainy and snowy cold weather, and let the aluminum sheet stand for about half an hour to adapt to the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors before opening it for use. Never open the aluminum sheet packaging directly outdoors, and do not open the packaging in a hurry when you get indoors. This will damage the surface of the aluminum sheet, which is not worth the loss.

  • 3. In an environment with severe chemical corrosion

If conditions permit, aluminum jacketing must be stacked separately from other chemical materials. If conditions are insufficient, aluminum sheet must be separated from other chemical materials as much as possible, at least ten centimeters apart. Similarly, when using aluminum sheet, do not open the packaging at a close distance, and do not expose the surface of the aluminum sheet in a chemically corrosive environment.

If the aluminum jacketing is seriously damaged due to chemical corrosion, you can use sodium carbonate solution to clean the aluminum sheet surface to form a protective layer and passivate the aluminum sheet surface, which can effectively prevent the aluminum sheet from being corroded again in the later stage.

Aluminum jacketing is most taboo to be in direct contact with water, moisture and acid and alkali substances. In order to prevent the aluminum sheet from being rapidly oxidized due to improper use. When stacking aluminum sheets, do not directly touch the ground, because if the aluminum sheet is placed on the floor with heavy moisture for a long time, the moisture in the air will adhere to the surface of the aluminum sheet, causing oxidation. Therefore, waterproof wooden boards can be used to stack aluminum jacketing to separate them from the ground.
